Introduction of council members. 2. Election of new chair/co-chair for 2009-2010. Michelle Ruprecht withdrew as chairperson for council because she moved. Council will need to elect a new chair and co-chair. 1 must be a parent and the other must be a school representative. Paula Booth nominated Lisa Blake as council chairperson. Anjanette Jones seconded. Unanimous vote for Lisa Blake. Michelle McDougal nominated Larene Dimond as the co-chair. Paula Booth seconded. Vote was unanimous for Larene as co-chair. Council also needs a representative from Area 2. This will be advertised in the school newsletter to ask for volunteers. Kristin Malovich is absent. 3. Review SCC law and policy. Policy has been revised. Other changes are not yet finalized, but will be updated when final. Revisions include: meetings must be scheduled, agenda must be posted, minutes must be posted, notice to parents. The policy is in line with the law. 4. Review School Wellness Plan. These requirements are included in legislation. Items discussed: a. Lunch and breakfast guidelines – students have 15 – 20 minutes to eat and still have time to play. b. Non-food items as rewards – Westvale is using a treasure tower. There are also numerous other ways students are recognized, i.e., 200 Club, Caught Being Good, Picnic with the Principal, Trip to the Principal, Leader of the Week, Leader of the Month. c. Weekly fitness requirements – teachers and school do the best they can to give students 150 minutes per week. 5. Review AYP/UPASS data. Westvale did not make AYP (NCLB). This is an all or nothing rating. There are a total of 40 categories. Westvale received a “Yes” in 35 of these categories. Of the 5 remaining categories, 4 were for subgroups, which were passed under safe harbor designation. The remaining “No” was for Language Arts. The school did not pass the total progress for the whole school. UPASS was met with flying colors. 6. CSIP Update. The re-write was due last year, but was postponed due to the district split. This is a 3 year plan, typically includes Language Arts and Math. This year the new plan will be written and it will be a 5 year plan. The writing committee will consist of Mrs. Gerber, Ms. Worthington (literacy specialist), 1 additional teacher and 1-2 parents. Round table meetings will be held 1 time per month to teach the process and work on plan. First meeting is Sept. 30, 2009 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The purpose of this meeting will be to review the process, timelines, templates and tools.
