Code of ConductPLEASE READ THIS BOOKLET WITH YOUR CHILD AND SIGN THE STATEMENT BELOW. PLEASE RETURN IT TO YOUR CHILD'S HOMEBASE TEACHER. MOUNTAIN SHADOWS is an excellent school where the teachers, students, principal, and staff work together to create a clean, safe learning environment. As we work together, we will have an effective school where students feel confident and happy while they learn. RESPECT is a key word at Mountain Shadows. Respect for self, respect for others and respect for property are essential elements of school success. Parents, please keep the issue of respect in mind as you review this Code of Conduct booklet with your students. We are committed to facilitate your students' learning. SAFE SCHOOL POLICYThe following conduct is considered dangerous or disruptive and is prohibited on school property at any time.
Students who violate the Safe School Policy will face disciplinary action in the form of restitution, suspension, or removal from school. RESTROOM CONDUCT
The school cannot assume responsibility for stolen, lost, or damaged bikes or scooters. Mountain Shadows provides bike racks and cages for bikes and scooters. These cages are not locked. Parents should provide student's with a lock. Students are not allowed to ride their bikes or scooters during school hours. They must "walk" their bikes or scooters while on school grounds and while crossing at the cross walks. Students are not allowed to play in or around the bike cages or climb on the fences.SKATEBOARDS or ROLLER BLADES are never allowed at school due to the danger they pose and because of problems with storage. Few items of play equipment are more responsible for hurting or injuring children than skateboards. For this reason, we would ask you not to allow them to come to school with your student. We strongly encourage children to keep shoes with rollers at home. These shoes are a safety issue and students are not allowed to have the wheels down on the school property, inside or outside of the building. Students who use the rollers on school property will be asked to call their parents immediately to have them bring appropriate shoes, without wheels, to the school. BUILDING
CONDUCT Disruptive items including but not limited to electronic toys & games, game boys, and personal stereos should not be brought to school. SPECIAL PROGRAM CONDUCTWe have arranged for some special programs to come to our school. These programs are for the enjoyment of all the students. When we are in the auditorium, it is always for a special occasion. Please pay particular attention to the following rules so that you will benefit from these programs.

ATTENDANCE
AND TARDY POLICY Students should not arrive at school earlier than 8:20 am and should leave school property when school is dismissed. Students arriving after 8:30 am will be considered tardy and must check-in at the office before going to class. District Policy requires that all tardies are recorded. DRESS
CODE
Once students arrive at shool, they will not be allowed to leave except with a parent or a parent designee. You may come to the school office and sign a form to check your child out of school. Do not go directly to your child's classroom. Sending a note to the teacher simplifies this process. At no time will we allow a student to walk home. Please do not make this request. We cannot release a student to an individual who is not listed on the student's (pink) registration card. The safety of your child is our primary concern! CITIZENSHIP
PLAN This plan establishes a consistent, systematic approach to deal with both appropriate and inappropriate student behavior. Students are taught what is expected of them in the classroom, on the school grounds, on the bus, and in the common areas of the building. They know they will receive recognition for positive behavior, and understand the consequences of inappropriate behavior. Each student is empowered to reach the worthwhile goal of self-discipline! CLASSROOM CONDUCET & CONSEQUENCESPositive reinforcement is the first component of proper behavior. Students are frequently recognized for displaying appropriate behavior. Students are rewarded in the following ways:
Each classroom will have school and classroom rules posted. These rules will allow teaching and learning to take place. Inappropriate behavior results in immediate action. CONTINUUM OF CLASSROOM CONSEQUENCESEach teacher at Mountain Shadows uses a color coded system. This system is used to show students where they are on the continuum of consequences. Grade levels may use different levels to accommodate age appropriate consequences. GREEN:If a student displays inappropriate behavior, a teacher may move the students' color to green. This serves as a warning to the student to discontinue the inappropriate behavior. YELLOW:If a student continues with inappropriate behavior, a teacher may choose to move the student to yellow. An appropriate consequence follows which may include losing recess time.RED:If a student breaks another rule the same day, the teacher may move the student to red. This indicates the child will spend a period of time in, "In School Suspension" (I.S.S.) and/or miss recess. I.S.S. may be fulfilled inthe office or in another teacher's classroom. A conference with the principal may be held. THE PRINCIPAL'S PLANThe focus of the administration is to recognize and encourage positive behavior. Students are sent to the office with good principal notes and are When a student, through the continuum of consequences is sent to the principal's office, it is handled in the following manner:
Fighting, vandalism, overt defiance, and stopping a class from functioning are all reasons that a student would be sent directly to the principal without using the pcoket chart. PHONE CALLST here are a limited number of phone lines in the school. Please make arrangements before school for your child to be picked up after school. Students are not allowed to use the phone unless it is an emergency. Bad weather is usually not considered an emergency. We try not to interrupt classes during the school day. We can take a message and deliver it to your child later. Please try to make arrangements with your child before school reagarding day-care, playtime, and transportation. My child and I have reviewed the Mountain Shadow's Code of Conduct and agree to comply with the terms.Parent Signature: Student Signature: Date: __________________________
