SCHOOL RULES AND POLICIES

* No Gum Policy
We enforce a no gum policy - Please have students leave gum and candy at home.

* Dress Code Standards-Students may not wear spaghetti strap shirts, bare midriff outfits (your stomach cannot show ), short shorts, oversized sleeveless T-shirts, muscle shirts, or jerseys with wide arm holes.

* Flip-flops, Sandals, and Heelies
Jordan District Policy number AA419 states,
"Shoes shall be worn at all times that ensure personal safety and hygiene." Experience has shown that injuries result when students use open-toed shoes at school, and thus, sandals are not to be worn by students. So called "heelies" or wheeled shoes are not allowed.

We have already had a few instances of students' feet being injured by the school doors.  These students were wearing sandals.  It is conceivable that the injuries would not have occurred if the students had been wearing shoes.

As a result, please inform your students that they are to wear shoes each day.

* No Hat Policy
Jordan District Policy states, "Hats of any kind are not allowed within the building except as part of an approved activity, or for religious or medical purposes."

* Students may get to school by walking, taking the school bus, in parents' cars, or by bicycle. If bicycles are used, it is the students' responsibility to secure it in the bike rack with a lock. Scooters, skateboards, and
roller-blades are not allowed on school grounds.

*
Cell Phones and Electrical Devices
Jordan District Policy states, "Possession of a cellular telephone by a student is a privilege that may be forfeited by any student who uses their cell phone inappropriately. Cellular telephone use during class time, instructional activities and fieldtrips is prohibited. Cellular telephones must remain off during these times." We also discourage the use of electronic devices at school such as i-pods, mp3 players, etc.

*Student DROP-OFF
As of Monday, March 12, 2007, the morning “drive-through” lane has been closed.  All parents are to only use the “drop-off” lane.  Please pull as far forward as you possibly can, right up
to the next car in line and watch for direction from
the adults outside.  Then
let your students out and have them unload on the curbside.  Then the adults will signal you to move forward and be on your way.

This has actually moved traffic faster and has been more efficient.  As a driver you will not have to be watching for a place to unload and waiting for a chance to get back into the “drive-through” lane.

After school the “drive-through” lane will be in use because all students do not come to the cars at the same time and some parents have to wait longer than others.

Personal Playground Equipment Policy
as of March 16, 2007

After talking with the Oakcrest staff, it was determined that students can bring personal playground equipment to school, to play with at recess and lunchtime.  This would include: footballs, basketballs, soccer balls, jump ropes and this type of equipment.  It is STRONGLY suggested that any and all equipment from home be labeled with the student’s name.  Also the school will not take responsibility for the equipment getting lost or stolen.
