MODIFIED SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL RULES

This game will be played with a 3 pitch rule.  You only get 3 pitches, if you don’t hit a fair ball in those pitches, you are automatically out.  A member of your team will pitch the ball to you.

An OFFICIAL slow pitch team has 10 players:  catcher, pitcher, 1st, 2nd, 3rd basemen, shortstop, right fielder, center fielder, left fielder, & rover.

DEFINITIONS:
Inning:              When both teams have had their turn at bat
Infield:              That part of the field which is included within the diamond made by the baselines.
Outfield:           That part of the field which is outside the diamond formed by the baselines and within the foul lines beyond the first and third bases and the boundary of the grounds.

Strikes:             In slow pitch softball, the ball must have an 6 foot arch on it as it approaches the batter.  The ball must then pass over home plate above the batters knees and below their arm pits to be a strike.

Foul Ball:          A batted ball that settles in foul territory in the infield, or lands in foul territory in the outfield.
Force Out:        When a base runner is forced to run to a base because of a batter becoming a base runner.  The runner is out when the ball is caught and the fielder touches the base they are advancing to.

Defense:           Team in the field
Offense:            Team at bat

RULES:
Players must bat in order. Once the game begins the batting may NOT change. If a substitution is made the sub will bat in the order (place) of the person they are replacing. In our class batting order must alternate boy/girl.

No base stealing is allowed in slow pitch softball.

The runner cannot leave the base until the ball passes over home plate on the pitch.
The runner is out if they leave the base before the ball is pitched or before the ball crosses home plate.

Runner can only overrun 1st base.  If any other base is overrun the runner can be tagged out.

With modified rules you can only take one base on an overthrow.

The fielders can’t stand on the baseline and interfere with the runner unless they are fielding a ball.

If the third out is made before a runner crosses home plate the run does not count.
The batter will be out if they throw the bat.

All foul balls will be strikes with out modified rules.

If a foul ball is caught in the air the batter is out.

If a catcher batches a fly ball, the runner can tag up and run at their own risk or they can stay at their base.

When a hit ball lands in fair territory then rolls foul before it gets to a base it is a foul ball.

When a hit ball lands beyond the bases in fair territory then rolls foul it is a fair ball.

The runner must be tagged (touched by the ball) if he is not forced to run to that base.

The team with the most runs at the end of class will be the winner.

If a runner and a baseman with the ball reach a base at the same time the tie goes to the defense and the runner is out.
