Safe Walking Routes

Herriman Elementary's Safety Committee has outlined safe walking routes for students to follow when walking to school. Please study the Safe Walking Route Map carefully. It is advised for parents to make several "run throughs" with their children of how they will be walking to school. Please note the three way stop at the corner of 6000 West and 100 South that has been installed with two crosswalks. Parents should help children understand the need for caution at all times. Children should never walk in the street. Children should walk along the side of the road within the white-striped walking lane or use sidewalks where they exist. In most places the county has widened the road for the walking path. Busses are available for students that live one and a half miles from the school. If you ride the bus and decide to walk we strongly encourage students to walk on the safe route provided.

Areas of Concern

Main Street: Children should cross main street ONLY at 100 West with a crossing gaurd. Children should continue on 100 West to 100 South, then east to the crossing gaurd at the intersection on 6000 West.

13400 South: Children should cross 13400 South ONLY at 6000 West.

Rose Creek Subdivision: Children should walk east on the north side of 13400 South to 6000 West, then turn north and walk to the school.

West of 6000 West on the north side of 6000 West: Students should walk east on 13400 South to 6000 West, then turn north and walk to the school.

6400 West (Rose Canyon Road) from Main Street to 13400 South: Students are to walk on the east shoulder of 6400 West to Main Street, then walk along the south side of Main street to 100 West. Students should then cross 100 West with the crossing gaurd. Proceed to 100 South. Turn east to 6000 West. Cross with the crossing gaurd.

Tuscany Subdivision: Walk west along 200 North to 6000 West. Cross 100 North and 6000 West. Proceed to Main Street. Turn west at Main Street. Proceed to 100 West, turn south and cross Main Street at the crossing gaurd. Proceed to 100 South, Turn east to 6000 West. Cross with the crossing gaurd.

Rose Creek Subdivision- North of 13400 between 6000 West and 5600 West: Upon entering 6000 West student should walk along the east side of 6000 West to 100 South and cross with the crossing gaurd in front of the school. Students can also access 6000 West by using the walking path along the north side of the subdivision.

Heritage Place: Upon entering 6000 West students should walk along the west side of 6000 West in the cross hatched walking lane to 200 North then follow the outlined walking route. The Safety Committee however, recommends that due to the high traffic on 5600 West and the fact that there is no crossing gaurd on 5600 West and 13100 South, parents are encouraged to drive their students.

Herriman Village: The Safety Committee recommends that due to the high traffic on 5600 West and the fact that there is no crossing gaurd on 5600 West and 13100 South, parents are encouraged to drive their students.

Students that are eligable for bus transportation schould always ride the bus. This will assure them that they will avoid any unsafe situations.

Parents/gaurdians should review and walk the safe walking routes with their children.
