Students at Herriman Elementary are accountable for their own actions. Students must follow the school wide rules as well as individual classroom rules established by their teacher.

Lunchroom

* Use inside voices and say "Please" and "Thank You".
* Learn your lunch number.
* Keep food on your tray.
* Clear your own tray leaving your area better than you found it.
* Get into the correct food choice line and wait your turn patiently.
* Eat and touch only your own food.

Hall

*SMITH, Silent Movement In The Hall
*Have required materials for your destination.
*Always walk facing forward keeping hands away from walls and bulletin boards.
*Get to where you are going in a timely fashion.

Bathroom

* Bathroom is for toilet use and washing only.
* Use inside voices
* Complete task and return to class quickly.
* Wash hand thoroughly keeping soap on hands and in the sink.
* Put all paper towels in the garbage can.

Playground

*Include all students in activities.
* Use playground equipment appropriately and take turns.
* Listen to adults and stay in assigned areas.
* Return playground equipment.
* Line up within one minute after the bell rings.

Assemblies

* Enter and exit assemblies in an orderly manner.
* Sit quietly on your pockets and listen to the speaker.
* Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.

Gym

* Enter and exit in an orderly manner.
* Use PE equiptment appropriately.
* Return PE equipement to the correct location.
* Listen and follow all instructions given by the teacher.

Library

* Enter and exit the library quietly.
* Listen to librarian and follow all instructions given.
* Whisper for a pleasant experience.
* Sit quietly on your pockets during story time keeping hands and feet to yourself.
* Use shelf marker appropriately.
* Be a book "procetector" by keeping books checked out in good condition.
* Return checked-out books by the due date.

Computer Lab

* Enter and exit the computer lab quietly and in an orderly manner.
* Bring needed supplies with you.
* Keep hands on your lap until directions are given and use compter appropriately.
* Listen carefully to directions, stay on task and complete required work.
* Use teacher directed websites only.
* No food or drink is allowed in the computer lab.

Bus

* Enter and exit bus appropriately.
* Use inside voices.
* Obey bus driver directions and rules.

* Keep hands, feet and other objects to yourself and inside the bus.
* Remain seated annd facing forward.
* Check your seat as you leave and make sure you take all belongings with you.

Classroom

* Follow all classroom rules
* Follow directions the first time given.
* Listen to the speaker, raise your hand, and wait to be called on.
* Be prepared with all needed materials.
* Respect and use classroom materials and tools appropiately.
* Be prepared to listen, learn, and do.
* Help others learn by being quiet, not distracting your neighbors or taking objects that don't belong to you.

Office

* Bring phone pass or note from teacher.
* Use furniture appropriately.
* Be patient and wait your turn.

Fighting and Disruptive Behavior

*Herriman Elementary has a no tolerance policy for fighting or aggressive physical behavior.

*Fighting is defined as any physical contact or treat of physical harm.

*Profanity and/or vulgar language will not be tolerated.

Consequences

The following steps will be taken if a student chooses to disregard the guidelines, or is involved in fighting or showing lack of respect for others and/or property:

  1. Student will fill out a "Think Time Sheet".
  2. Teacher and/or Principal will investigate the situation.
  3. An appropriate, meaningful consequence will be decided upon by the student, teacher and/or principal.
  4. Student, teacher and/or principal may call home to inform parent of incident.
  5. Fighting results in automatic in-school-suspension.

The following may also occur:

* Parent conference with teacher and/or principal.
* In-school-suspension with a conference with parent.
* Out of school suspension and parent conference.
* Participation in "Friday School" held on Friday afternoons from 1:30-2:30 PM

Please refer to the "Dangerous and Disruptive Conduct" policy in the Elementary Registration Booklet. Some offenses warrent immediate suspension orexpulsion from school.
