Parents, we love having your children here at Elk Ridge Middle School and enjoy working with them on a daily basis. It is our goal to provide your children with a happy, healthy and successful educational environment. We understand that part of doing so is making the safety of your children of utmost importance. To accomplish this we have certain rules and policies specifically designed with the safety of your children in mind. We’d like to take this time to remind you of one of those policies.

Please be advised that Elk Ridge Middle School does not provide supervision after school hours. The Elk Ridge School day ends at 2:50 pm. Adult supervision is provided for the safety of our children boarding school buses, entering vehicles and crossing the parking lot until 3:10 pm. Only students with a legitimate reason for remaining on school grounds (tutoring, meeting with a teacher, school approved extra curricular activity, etc.) and have received an official After Hours Pass may remain after that time. We ask that these students leave promptly when they have finished their approved school business. To ensure our students safety we ask that parents support this policy by reminding students to head directly home after the school day ends or to make proper after school arrangements for them. This not only keeps students safe, but allows the custodial staff to get the school cleaned up and ready for the next day.

Students are expected to be out of the building and off of school grounds after the school day is over. Students found on school grounds after this time will be given one written warning. After this warning they may face possible citation. According to South Jordan law it is a Class B Misdemeanor to “Loiter, idle, wander, stroll or play in, about or on any school grounds or building, either on foot, or in or on any vehicle, without having some lawful business therein or thereof.”

We may be able to accommodate students who must wait for their parents during inclement weather by allowing them to stay in After School Detention until 4:00 pm. These students must comply with the After School Detention rules or they will be asked to leave. Please keep in mind that After School Detention is only held Monday – Thursday and may be cancelled at any time. This is for extenuating circumstances only and should not be used on a regular basis.
