News from the Guidance Center :

  • Midterms and Failing Notices were sent home on September 28th.
  • 9th grade students should be aware that they will need to make up credits during summer school for any failed core classes.

Core classes for 9th grade are:

Any Math class    full year - 4 quarters
Language Arts    full year - 4 quarters
Geography        full year - 4 quarters
Earth Systems or Biology    full year - 4 quarters
PST - PE class    half year - 2 quarters

  • Only 1 quarter of each class failed may be made up per summer school session.  There are only 2 sessions of summer school.  In other words if your student failed 3 quarters of Language Arts, only 2 of those quarters could be made up in Summer School.  The other quarter would need to be made up doing a packet or Summer School the following year.
  • Students may take up to 3 different subjects per summer school session.
  • There is a fee for summer school and if a student needs to make up several quarters it can be costly.
  • We encourage 9th grade students to be on task and dedicated to passing all of their classes.
  • We will not have summer school information until next Spring.
  • The end of the quarter is November 2nd and Report Cards will be sent home with your students sometime between the dates of November 9th and 16th.
  • Parents, please check Power School for your student's current grades.
  • Login and Password information for Power School is available from the Attendance Office.

Reality Town - Reality Town will be taking place on November 15th.  This activity is for all 9th grade students.

If  you have a 9th grade student, ask  them  about the  activities they have been doing to prepare for this activity.

8th Grade SEOPs   -  We are in the midst of doing 8th Grade SEOPs (Student Education Occupational Plans) with their parents.  It is done alphabetically and Counselors  are hoping to finish up by the Winter Break.  If you have not already received an assigned appointment, be looking for yours in the mail.  As of October 18th we are working through the B's for Mr. Cox and the M's for Mrs. Dzierzon.  Appointments are sent out weekly and if you are further down the alphabet it will be a while before you receive your letter.  Please do not call the Guidance Center because you have not received an appointment.  It will be coming. There are about 455 8th grade students and changing appoinment times can be difficult.  If, however, the day and time you are assigned does not work, please call the Guidance Center  (412-2810) and speak with either Janet Reid or Janet Gray.  Appointment times range from 7:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.  If a parent is not able to attend, Counselors will have the SEOP anyway and send home whatever information they discuss with the student.
