Next year at ERMS there will be two ballroom programs available after school for any students who wish to sign up. Below are details for the programs--keep in mind, however, that details may change as the new school year approaches.

Ballroom Club

  • Sign-ups for Ballroom Club will be held the first three days of school. 9th graders sign up the first day, 8th graders the second, and 7th graders the last day. If you want to do Club, get to Mrs. Rees' room as soon as possible that day to get your name on the list!
  • Only 60 kids will be allowed in Club--30 boys and 30 girls. You do not need to sign up with a partner.
  • In Club you will learn the basic steps in Cha-Cha, Waltz, Foxtrot, Swing, and Mambo. To learn more about these dances, click on The Dances link.
  • Club will go from September to December and will end at Christmas break. Because of the school play, Club will only be held during the first semester and will NOT start up again 2nd semester.
  • Club will be held from 3:00 - 4:00 after school on Wednesdays. You are responsible for your own transportation home. If you miss club repeatedly you will be asked to quit, and someone from the waiting list will take your place.
  • On Club you will have the opportunity to purchase ballroom shoes, though it is not required. They will cost from $30-$50. Ballroom shoes usually cost from $60-$150, so it's a great deal! As a side note, ballroom shoes are used a lot in the school play. If you are interested in the play, you may want to buy them for Club.
  • Ballroom Team is an elite group of 18 members, who become close friends and learn and dance together. Only those who are truly committed will want to try out of team. Team learns a formation dance, which they peform at the talent show, which will be held in January. After that, Team is over.
  • During the first three weeks of the September there will be a class for those who would like to try out for Team. It will be held from 4:00 - 4:30 on Wednesdays after Club, and from 3:00 - 4:00 on Thursdays. You will learn the steps you need to know to audition so you aren't going in cold.
  • The date of the audition will be announced at a later time. Team will be on Thursdays from 3:00 - 4:30. If you cannot make this time--do not try out.
  • Those who made team last year must try out again to be on team this year.
  • 7th graders are allowed to try out for team, though due to height and maturity issues, they are less likely to be chosen.
  • Teh team consists of eight couples and one alternate couple. If you are assigned the alternate, you will fill in different positions when students are absent and will only perform at one talent show, dancing the position of the person who missed the most rehearals.
  • If you make team you will be REQUIRED to buy ballroom shoes (whether you are male or female) which will cost anywhere from $30-$50. (Unless of course you already purchased them this year.)You will also need to pay for your costume, which we try to keep between $20-$30.
