3rd Grade

Nov.-Dec. The holiday season is rapidly approaching, and our hearts are turning to all of the wonderful things we each have to be thankful for. We wanted to share with you some of the things our third graders are thankful for.

I’m thankful for…

*food, turkey, animals, family, friends toys, and everything I have.
*pizza. I like the topping pepperoni and cheese.
*food, drinks, toys, money, school, and jobs.
*snow and snowball fights.
*my family and for the pumpkin pie.
*teachers because they always take time for me.

At this time we would like to let you parents know that we, as teachers, are thankful for you and all you do to support your children in school. We are also grateful for all you do to help and support us in our efforts to teach your children and to make a difference in their lives.

Our “Students of the Week” for the last month have been:

Mason Lichfield

Garret Hidden * Kevin Baeza * Belle Lopez * Natalie Marsden * Jonah Blackham * Jaydee Guy * Ambria Dial * Savannah Russell * Kanyon Murphy * Shelby Keating * Andrew Imperiale * Courtnnie Jex

October: We are not sure if there is a “touch of fall” or a “touch of winter” in the air, but our third graders enjoy watching the seasons change. They feel the excitement of upcoming holidays. The students have been doing a lot of writing. They have especially liked writing Halloween stories and poems. Third graders have wonderful imaginations! Our students are looking forward to the Halloween festivities and parade.
We have been learning more about the desert habitat. The students have learned about the plants and animals of the desert and how they have adapted to be able to survive in such a harsh climate.
Thank you for your continued support. Keep reading and studying the math facts and spelling words with your student(s).
Here are some Halloween poems written by third grade students:

Candy crunching with a fright. Werewolf howling at midnight.
Devil burning in the light. Owls hooting giving such a fright.
BOO! Spooky!

Vampires laughing sucking people’s blood.
Frankenstein stomping, making a big thud.
Boo!

Ghost whistling, scratching at you door.
Wolf howling, barking through the floor.
Boo!

Our “Very Important Persons” this past month have been:

Zachary Prescott, Bailee May
Jaxon Curtis, Konny Fung
Josie Larsen, Madison Hutchinson
Kevin Baeza, Carson Robbins
Angelica Nielson, Kamree Kelley

On Sept. 29, third grade welcomed fall with our annual “Fair Day”. Our hall and classrooms were decorated with sunflowers, watermelons, scarecrows, and beautiful artwork created by the students. Each third grade student brought something he/she grew, painted or colored, collected, made, or cooked. We sure appreciate those parents that came to see all of our exciting projects. Fair Day is such a great way to see what talented students we have.
Our students enjoyed our field trip to Silver Lake up Big Cottonwood Canyon. The sun was shining, and the day was perfect. We saw many ducks, fish, and squirrels. We found many living and nonliving things. We would like to thank all of the parents who helped us with this field trip.
We have started the magic “c” word – cursive! Our students love learning to read and write in cursive. We have one favor to ask: please do not encourage your student to write letters in cursive until the letters have been taught in class. There are several methods of writing cursive, and we would like to go through each letter, one at a time, and instruct it in the method that Jordan District uses.
Our “Students of the Week” this past month have been:
Treasure Grill, Dylon Harris, Lily Barbee, Lauren Rios, Morgan Savage, Trevor Zupon, Tiffany Gallegos, Jared Huff, Gavin Forsyth, Kayla Horton, London Robker

FIRST OF THE YEAR HELLO,

Third grade has gotten off to a great start! We are looking forward to having such wonderful students this year. We are impressed with their positive attitudes and how prepared they come to school each day.
The third grade students will be going on a field trip in September to Silver Lake up Big Cottonwood Canyon. There they will learn firsthand about one of our local habitats. They will also be looking closely for living and nonliving objects.
Our students should be reading at home for at least 20 minutes, five times a week. Reading notes have been sent home. Incentives to do their home reading will be given at school. Our next reading activity for those students with completed home reading notes will be “Camp Day” on September 3.
Spelling lists are sent home weekly. Students should be studying their spelling words for a few minutes each night.
We enjoyed meeting with parents at Back to School Night. We are excited about our third grade curriculum, and we appreciated the opportunity to share it with the parents of our students.
The third grade students will be working hard on math facts. It is important that they are reviewing the addition and subtraction facts.
We appreciate the support you give your child in his/her learning experience. The most successful learning takes place when the school and home work together.
Our third grade “Students of the Week” for the first month of school have been:

Jason Bruner, Nevada Muniz, Lindsay Sumbot, Danielle Swartz, Micah Davidson, Mikey Gatti, Ashton Mann, John Silva
