2nd Grade

Liz Taylor Blog

NOV-DEC Dear Parents,

Second Grade will wrap up November with the annual Turkey Gobbler Parade on Wednesday, November 25th at 1:10 PM. We will gobble through the halls wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. School will be dismissed early that day at 1:25 PM.

The first week in December will kick off the 2nd Grade Holiday Customs Celebration. Students and parents are encouraged to share and participate in various activities and customs shared by students of our school. The students will be completing a Custom Doll that should be decorated in the style representing their national background. They are also asked to note some of the special traditions and celebrations common to their family based on their ancestry. Parents who would like to share customs and traditions with our 2nd Graders can schedule a presentation with their child's classroom teacher. These presentations will be done for the whole grade level. Students will also be creating a special gift for their families to enjoy over the holiday. Please be sure your child has their material and ribbon to school on the due date given by your child's teacher so they don't miss out on this activity!

Instead of a formal Christmas Program, parents are invited to the annual school Sing Around the Christmas Tree on December 23rd at 9:00 AM. B-Track is off but students are welcome to come and sing also.

Thanks again for helping your student with Math Facts and Reading as part of their daily Homework. We can not enough the importance of this in each students progress. Keep up the Good Work! Also remember, Fantastic Falcon is a full Year Project. Your student should be working on the goals he/she has chosen. Teachers will have an updated Fantastic Falcon Report at Spring Conferences of the goals your child has accomplished. Be sure to let your child's teacher know any goals they have completed at home.

Parents we need your help making sure your student is bringing a coat to school. Gloves, hat and boots on snowy days are also recommended. Part of our Social Studies Curriculum is to help students learn the appropriate adaptions we need to make to keep our bodies healthy in response to our environment. Our Science Curriculum also covers Weather and how in changes from day to day and with the seasons. Help us solidify these concepts for our students by encouraging them to dress appropriately for the weather each day.

Thanks so all of you for your continued help and support.

We wish you all a Happy Holiday!

The 2nd Grade Team

Beginning of year greeting,
Another school year is off to a fantastic start.
This year we will be helping our second graders
to become good citizens. We will be focusing
on showing respect for our school and others.
Students will also learn and hopefully follow all
classroom rules. This will make school a more
enjoyable place for all.

The most important part of 2nd grade is reading.
It is the cornerstone of all learning. We will be
working very hard this year to improve reading
fluency and comprehension. That is why it is
so important for students to read each night
for 20 minutes or more.

We are also teaching the students to be more
responsible as well. Each child should bring
his/her backpack and homework folder each day.
Please help your child to remember to keep his/her
reading tracking sheet and journal in the homework
folder. We recommend brining a water bottle as
well.

Thank you so much to all parents that came to
Back to School Night. We enjoyed meeting each
of you. If you are interested in volunteering in
the classroom, please contact your child’s teacher.
