1st Grade

NOVEMBER: In November we will be studying pilgrims and Native Americans and doing various art projects. Students will learn about Thanksgiving and we will be eating in our rooms for Thanksgiving. Please remember to keep reading at home as much as possible. Remember to read while off track. It is also very helpful for parents to read to their children at home, as this helps them to learn new words.

FIRST OF YEAR GREETING: Our first graders are getting used to a full day of learning and we are having fun together.  We have learned our colors and are getting full swing into Math and Language Arts.  Please help your child to do his take-home reading each night.  This is very important as well as the Math homework that will be coming home soon.  Our Spelling program will be starting soon as well.  Please practice with your child so that he is ready for the test on Friday.
      We wanted to remind you about the drop-off and pick-up safety rules before and after school.  Please drop off in front of our doors where indicated by the curb.  Do not have your child get out of the car in the through lane and cross to the sidewalk.  Crossing should only happen at the supervised crosswalks.  When picking up, make sure your child enters the car from the curb, or in the parking lot after crossing at the crosswalk.  This is so important, especially with our first graders and their small bodies that are hard to be seen at times by drivers.
