5th Grade
November:
Fifth graders have really begun working on science. We are studying electricity, magnetism, heredity, earth's landforms, and matter. Thanks to all those parents who help us out by donating supplies for our science projects as we need them. The math is getting more and more challenging. It is very helpful for your child if you review our math assignments at home to ensure that your child fully understands the concepts we work on during the day. Remember that all fifth graders need to be reading every night with their reading minutes recorded on the Responsibility Card! Thank you!
October:
The students in 5th grade have been working hard in their classes. For a break, and exercise, we have been playing a kickball tournament twice a week as well. Every student has really shown good sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive attitude during our games. We have just begun doing a rotation of classes for our science units. Each class will have each teacher for a three-week period where they learn about Earth's Landforms, Heredity, Matter, Electricity, and Magnetism. These rotations will continue throughout the year, right up until testing in the late spring. To help students gain further understanding of the Heredity unit, we will be taking a field trip to the zoo. D-Track is going on October 15th, while A, B, and C-Tracks are going on October 27th.
We would like to thank parents for all their support at home of what we are doing in school. Remember to check those Responsibility Cards nightly, record your reading minutes, and check the student planner. Without you our students would not succeed!
New Year Hello, The fifth grade has gotten off to a great start this year! We have been working hard on
data analysis, graphing, algebra, and lots of review in math. It is important that we start the year with these important concepts so we can build on them throughout the year. In writing, we are focusing on organizing writing into solid sentences and paragraphs. Ms. King is a science expert and has been teaching mini labs each week to introduce our curriculum of inherited traits, landforms, properties of matter, magnetism, and electricity. Social studies has brought the students' focus to the history of the Americas, particularly that of what is now the United States. We have been learning about Native Americans and the European Explorers that traveled here. The year has started off great, so parents, just keep checking those planners and RC's! Thanks for all your help and support.
