There are 6 responsibilities of the School Community Council
1-To participate in the development of a school improvement plan designed to improve student achievement.
2- To present its school improvement plan to the Board of Education annually.
3- To advise and assist in the development and implementation of the professional staff development plan at each school.
4- The School Community Council of each elementary and middle school shall develop and submit annually to the local school Traffic Safety Committee a child access routing plan.
5-The School Community Council shall provide a forum for community discussion of school-related concerns, encouraging citizens to express their views about educational issues and problems.
6- The School Community Council shall coordinate the fundraising activities of the local school. However, local school PTA organizations may conduct fund-raisers to support their activities and projects. (See Policy AA417—Fund Raising.)
Issues which are outside the purview of the School Community Council shall include District policies, budgets, laws, and ethics, as well as issues which are the specific responsibility of another educational organization.
Each School year the council is created by parents who choose to volunteer along with faculty. The committee is equal in number and the chair person and vice chairperson shall be one parent and one faculty.
