Kennecott Land Development, Jordan School District , and the College of Education at the University of Utah have entered into a partnership to enhance educational practice at the new Daybreak Elementary School . The primary focus of the Daybreak Elementary School Partnership is to build a professional learning community that embraces a “culture of inquiry” in the school through a combination of activities. These activities include pre-service preparation experiences for University teacher candidates, in-service and professional development activities for Daybreak educators, and research and inquiry initiatives involving all three partners. The following are key priorities of the partnership:
1. Work with and among the three partners to mutually inform and enhance the educational and community practices of all partners,
2. Place University pre-service teacher candidates in Daybreak to provide field experiences that will enhance their professional preparation,
3. Conduct research and professional development activities to address school priorities such as assessment and monitoring of student learning to improve teaching practices and educational services.
4. Support specialized school-wide initiatives such as parent education programs or student development programs.
