Cathy Spuck

Miss Spuck Hello, I'm Cathy Spuck and I was born in Baltimore, Maryland. I graduated from Brigham Young University with a dual degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education. I have taught Kindergarten and Second Grade in Jordan School District for twenty-eight years, twenty-six of those have been at Crescent Elementary. Go CUBS! It is exciting to see the "Ooh, aah," moments in the classroom when students discover something new (even if it involves touching a fish from the seafood department!) I enjoy learning new things as well as teaching them, so my hobbies include reading, photography, traveling, and visiting museums and historic sights. Last year's highlights were seeing the Kiluea volcano crater from a helicopter and looking at George Washington's false teeth at Mount Vernon. My favorite adventure so far this year was going behind the scenes at Sea World, Orlando to pet a dolphin and a penquin. I live in Sandy and try to be involved in the community, including frequently volunteering at the Sandy Amphitheater.

Shirley Morgan

Mrs. Morgan

Hi! My name is Shirley Morgan and I love being a Crescent Cub! I received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College in Early Childhood Education. I have taught Kindergarten and first grade but Kindergarten is my favorite. It is fun and rewarding to see the children progress so quickly. I have three children of my own and two very spoiled cats. I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, singing and most of all chocolate!

Susan Turpin

First Grade

Jan Harding

Mrs. Harding My name is Jan Harding. I am in my 16th year of teaching here at Crescent Elementary. I love being able to introduce children (and parents) to the beginning of the education experience. My husband and I like to spend time with our 3 children, their spouses and our 5 grandchildren. I also like to walk, eat out and go to movies. The staff at Crescent has changed through the years, but always maintains a high quality of teaching professionalism. I am thankful to be a part of this heritage.

Leah Oland

I’m Leah Oland and I’m a new first grade teacher. I transferred from Sunrise Elementary and also worked at Mount Jordan Middle. I have taught both elementary and special education.
Early in my career I worked in Northern Idaho. I taught in a one-room schoolhouse. It was very cool. Northern Idaho is where I learned about fun activities like hiking and skiing that eventually brought me to Alta, Utah on a ski vacation. Of course I moved to Utah shortly thereafter. I love the state of Utah and enjoy exploring its beautiful canyons and mountains. I grew up in the Dakotas. I’m from a family of ten with siblings spread around the country. It’s very handy when planning cheap vacations. I go home occasionally and appreciate the beauty and space of the prairie more each time I visit. I’m thrilled to be at Crescent Elementary. We’re going to have a great year.

Camille Mabey

Miss Mabey Hi! My name is Camille Mabey and I am so thrilled to be teaching at Crescent for my third year! I received my bachelor's degree from Southern Utah University in 2004, and started my career at Bloomington HIlls Elementary in St. George, teaching 1st grade. I knew that I wanted to be a teacher when I was in the third grade and loved learning from a wonderful instructor that year! I am the oldest child in my family and have three younger brothers! Some of my favorite hobbies are water/snow skiing, swimming, going to movies, shopping, reading, and traveling, especially to Hawaii!

Second Grade

Ashlee Lewis

Mrs. Lewis

Hi! I am Ashlee Lewis. I come from a family of four girls and was raised in Pleasant Grove. I graduated from Brigham Young University in 2005. This is my second year of teaching second grade and I love it! Crescent Elementary has been great! I taught at Oak Hollow Elementary, in Draper, last year. In June 2006, I married Craig Lewis and we are currently living in Murray. I love spending time with my family and friends! I like to go on walks, swimming, watching movies and playing games. I have always had a passion for learning and teaching. I knew at a young age that I wanted to be a teacher to help children learn and grow!

Loralee Nelson

Mrs. L. Nelson I have lived all of my life in Utah and grew up in Riverton. I graduated from the old Bingham High School in Copperton. I earned my Bachelor's Degree from Brigham Young University with a composite major in Child Development and Family Relations and Elementary Education with an Early Childhood Endorsement. I earned my Master's Degree from Grand Canyon University. I interned at Meadow Moor Elementary in Granite District in second grade the year I was married. I then did some substitute teaching following the birth of my first baby, Kameryn, who was born with multiple defects and lived just eight and a half months. I taught third grade for one year in Draper before my next children came. And when Tanna and Trevan were small, I taught pre-school for one year. Bryn, Erryn, Kaylen, and Karter kept me pretty busy for the next few years, but when Karter started Kindergarten, I did too. I taught Kindergarten for five years at Jordan Ridge Elementary, then when I became a single parent, I moved up to First grade. I taught First grade for the next eight years, until I was asked to teach ESL for one year. I spent the next year at Monte Vista, Jordan Ridge, Sprucewood, Oak Hollow, and Rose Creek every day, teaching ESL students. About the time I was preparing to go back to First grade at Jordan Ridge, I was told that I needed to continue with ESL. This time it was at Crescent, Sprucewood, and Oak Hollow. The next two years I was full time ESL at Crescent, and now I am back to Second grade. I am a grandmother of almost nine sweet grandchildren. Besides spending time with them, I enjoy traveling (mainly to visit my grandchildren), finding fun gifts for them, reading, watching movies, and preparing for school. I have enjoyed my time here at Crescent Elementary, and have loved the special students I have been able to teach.

Beverly Richards

Mrs. Richards Hello, my name is Beverly Richards. My husband and I live in Highland, Utah. We have 4 children and 12 grandchildren. I graduated from the University of Utah in Elementary Education. I started teaching 3rd grade at Granite Elementary, then moved to Cottonwood Heights, where I taught 2nd and 4th grade. At Crescent, I have taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. My family and I enjoy activities and fun times together. Recently we traveled through Italy, Switzerland, France, and England. As a hobby we raise running quarter horses. It is my desire to instill in each child a love of learning, a sense of confidence in themselves, and a feeling of pride and accomplishment.

Kathy Blauer

Miss Blauer I was born in Burley, Idaho, and attended Ricks College and BYU. I was in the marching band that won 3rd place in the U.S. and performed at the Calgary Stampede. I have taught for 25 years. In 2004-2005 and 2005-2006, I was nominated for the Who's Who Among America's Teachers award. Also, I was nominated to be among America's Professional Women for 2005-2006. Third Grade

Heather McEntire

My name is Heather McEntire, and I am so excited to begin teaching at Crescent Elementary. I have lived in Utah all my life and come from a small town named Kamas. Reading, writing, crocheting, and playing with my puppy are some of my favorite activities. I recently graduated from Westminster College and began pursuing my life-long dream of being a teacher. My love of learning and enthusiasm for school is going to help make it a great year!

Kathy Burton

Mrs. Burton Kathryn Burton has been teaching at Crescent Elementary for twenty-five years. She has taught kindergarten, first grade, second grade, third grade, and reading. It is the perfect occupation for her because of her love of children. As a second grader, she made a goal to become a teacher and feels fortunate to have accomplished such a fulfilling goal. After these twenty-five years, Kathryn still loves teaching! Kathryn has four children of her own, three girls and one boy. She has five grandchildren, three girls and two boys. She is a U of U graduate. She has a reading and art endorsement and has completed the training for Reading Recovery. She enjoys reading, quilting, going to Disneyland, and spoiling her adorable grandchildren! She loves her students here at Crescent and couldn't ask for a better job!

Angie Drope

Hello! My name is Angie Drope and I am one of the 3rd grade teachers here at Crescent Elementary. I was a lifelong resident of California. My husband, Michael and I moved to Utah recently because he is now stationed at Hill Air Force Base. I LOVE living here in Utah and am very excited to teach at Crescent Elementary! I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies and a Minor in Deaf Studies from California State University Sacramento. Besides being a teacher, I am also a noncertified American Sign Language Interpreter; teaching was my first love, so I never pursued my Interpreter Certification. I have no children, but I do have a 2 year old mini-pin, Gilbert and a 17 year old cat, Spot, both of which I am very proud to say are spoiled like they were children. When I am not teaching I love to read mystery novels, scrapbook, and spend time with my family. I am looking forward to a fun filled year!

Amanda Oettli

I live in Midvale with my husband Adam and our dog Ali - she is the cutest Beagle alive!! I enjoy running, swimming, reading and traveling. I love to go on cruises and I will be returning from a cruise to Alaska just before school begins.

Bonnie Dixon

Mrs. Dixon I was born in Utah and have lived here all my life. I love the state of Utah and all the different things I can do here. This is why I love teaching 4th grade and Utah History. I graduated from Westminster in Elementary Education and received a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Utah. I have a Gifted Endorsement and an ESL Endorsement from the University of Utah. I have taught 4th grade at Crescent Elementary for 22 years and I love it! I have 3 grown children and 4 grandchildren that are a blast. I love to travel, ski, golf, hike, camp, and read. I am a true U of U fan and watch all the football games and gymnastic meets. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my kids and grandkids.

Janell Stockman

Mrs. Stockman My name is Janell Stockman. I have been teaching in the Jordan School District for 38 years. I have taught at Butler and Crescent Elementary in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I received my B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University, but have continued my studies at the University of Utah. I have been very honored to be the recipient of several educator awards among them Jordan School District's Teacher of the Year. I have also been listed six times in The National Teachers Who's Who Among America's Teachers; having been nominated by former students. I love teaching. My life is happier and fuller through my association with students and my fellow teachers.

Mary Jo Duncombe

Mrs. Duncombe I'm Mrs. Duncombe and I am so happy to be teaching once again at Crescent. Fourth grade is the best grade of all, too! I love children. They bring the best out in me. I have been married for 32 years to my great husband, Dennis. We have 4 awesome, adult children, and 2 little granddaughters, Grace and Lily. Now that I have my fourth graders back, my life is complete!

Fifth Grade

Vicki Hansen

Mrs. Hansen I was born in Utah and have lived here most of my life, but I have also lived in New Jersey and Washington. I graduated from Westminster with a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Psychology in 1985, and another Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1987. I completed my Master's degree in 1991 (also at Westminster). On New Year's Eve 2001, I lost my darling husband to cancer. I am lucky to have two amazing daughters, Andrea and Austa, who keep me extremely busy. This is my 20th year teaching at Crescent Elementary. I have taught 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. I love teaching the students here!

Sherrie Andrizzi

Mrs. Andrizzi I have lived in Utah all my life. I went to Draper Elementary School, Mount Jordan Junior High, and Jordan High School (the old Jordan). I graduated from Utah State University. I received my Master's Degree from Grand Canyon University. I love teaching school - especially at Crescent Elementary! I have been teaching for 26 years, with 25 of them at Crescent. I have taught in 2nd grade (one year), 3rd grade (22 years), and I am currently teaching 5th grade for the third year. I am married and have two boys, Trevor and Tyson. Some things that I like to do are: cooking, reading, going to dinner, watching movies, doing crossword puzzles, and of course, teaching kids at Crescent.

Sandy Lloyd

Mrs. Lloyd I love teaching and always wanted to be a teacher! I remember playing teacher as a little girl and always having a perfect class with perfect students! (Some years that actually happens.) I was born in Anchorage, Alaska and traveled the world as my father served in the United States Air Force. I remember tornadoes in Texas, hurricanes in Japan, and typhoons in the Philippine Islands. After graduating from high school in the Philippines, I attended BYU but married before graduating. Marriage and six children later, I returned to BYU and finished my degree in Elementary Education. Education has always been very important in our family...all our children are college graduates and my husband and I both have graduate degrees. Except for my first year of teaching, I have spent my teaching career at Crescent Elementary in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I enjoy teaching older students. They are so clever and quick-witted. One of my greatest joys is hearing one of any of my ten grandchildren (8 of which live out of state) call me "Nana". I also enjoy spending time with my husband and nestling down with a good book while sitting beside a cozy fire.

Sixth Grade

Casey Draper

Miss Draper Hello! I'm Casey Draper, and yes, I live in Draper! This is my fifth year teaching, and my fifth year at Crescent. I received my B.A. and ESL endorsement from the University of Utah, and my Master's degree from Grand Canyon University. I enjoy teaching 6th graders; they have lots of personality and they keep me laughing so hard it brings tears to my eyes. I also love working with technology, as long as it cooperates! At home I have a beagle named Belle, and a cat named Gracie. They think they own me. In my free time I like to play sports, scrapbook, make cards, read, go out to eat, and play with my niece and nephew, Lily and Jaxon. My latest obsession is Guitar Hero. I love being a teacher most of all!

Francene Spencer

Mrs. Spencer Francene Spencer was born and raised in Murray, Utah. After graduating from Granite High School, she worked as a legal secretary for Beneficial Life Insurance Co. A year after high school graduation, she married Kenneth A. Spencer, and are the proud parents of four sons and two daughters, and proud grandparents of ten grandsons and four granddaughters. While a stay-at-home mom, raising children, teaching private piano students and a volunteer music teacher at her children's elementary school, she was encouraged by the principal there to pursue a teaching certificate. So, at age 40 she graduated in 1987 from BYU with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Music Education. In 1994 she achieved her Master's Degree at Utah State University with an emphasis and endorsement in gifted education. Later on she achieved her State of Utah Music Endorsement. She has taught a second/third split, a third/fourth split, 12 years of fourth grade, and is now in her sixth year of teaching sixth grade - asked her favorite grade? Of course, it's sixth! She retired from Granite District in 2006 to be with her husband who also retired from teaching after 37 years in the classroom. Many plans were changed and revised as she returned to the classroom in Jordan District. Francene still enjoys kids and music. She continues to teach piano (mostly to grandkids), but believes strongly that "A happy child is a singing child and a singing child is a happy child."

Mary Barton

Mrs. Barton Hi! I'm Mary Barton and I get to be a part of the special education team. I have 4 children, a husband, and two naughty beagle dogs. I have had lots of great experiences teaching. I was able to give extra help to Tristan Gale, who won the Olympic Gold Medal in the 2002 Winter Olympics Skeleton Bobsled Races. I was even there cheering her on. I grew up in Seattle and I was once on a Seattle Seafair Parade float. I've even been on a game show. Teachers are not boring. I love finding ways for kids to learn the best way for them and to be successful, using their strengths.

Michelle Matthews

Mrs. Matthews I am Michelle Matthews and I was born here in Salt Lake City, though I have also lived in California and Maryland. I graduated from Alta High School and then attended BYU - Go Cougars! After receiving a Bachelor's degree in Special Education, I began working at Crescent Elementary as a Special Ed. teacher. I am married and have four children; three boys and a girl, ages thirteen, eleven, eight and six. In 2001 I took a few years off to devote more time to raising my children, then came back to Crescent this year. I have been teaching and tutoring for over thirteen years now, and I love the people I work with and I love the students. But work isn't all I do. When I'm not at school, I enjoy reading, working in the yard, playing games, music, and spending time with my family. I am excited to once again be working with the many talented teachers, students, and parents at Crescent.

Psychologist

Stephanie Bailey

Mrs. Bailey I was born here in SLC. I received by Bachelor's degree at Westminster College with a double major in Fine Arts and Psychology. Fine Arts is my first love. My emphasis was in drawing and painting. When I have time I still paint. The idea is to find beauty or something extraordinary in things we see every day. My last year at Westminster, I went on a school trip to Europe (England, France, Spain). It was the most incredible experience of my life. I have gone to graduate school in both Special Education and Educational Psychology. I taught special education for four years, and the third and fourth years I went back to school to become a school psychologist. I'm still working on that. I believe that anything good that someone else does for us, we must return to the Universe or pass on to someone else. I have no children, but I have an elderly cat. He sits on my lap at breakfast every morning and purrs. It is one of the great luxuries of my life. My hobbies include: swimming, cycling, rock climbing, silver smithing, painting, reading, hiking, and any other form of fine art I can become engaged in. My favorite books are To Kill a Mockingbird and Less Than Zero. I love Elvis, Italian food and fine shoes.

Speech

Kathy Young

Mrs. Young Kathy Young has been our speech pathologist for 25 years. She was raised a California girl and attended the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her graduate work was done at Utah State. She has a wonderful husband, son, and daughter. If you are ever at Strawberry Reservoir, you might see her there on their sailboat. She has a great backyard and she loves to garden. She was recently able to take her family to Europe to celebrate the 60th anniversary of D-Day, where her father had served as a WWII fighter pilot.

Literacy

Paula Burns-McEvoy

Mrs. Burns-McEvoy Hi, I'm Paula Burns-McEvoy and this is my second year as the Elementary Facilitator. My job here at Crescent is to help students become better readers and teachers to become even better teachers. It's a fun job with many different things going on. I have taught in many different areas of education. We moved from the Midwest 12 years ago. When I'm not working you would find me curled up with a book. In the winter it's the ski slopes or watching my son's ski racing around the western states. I also enjoy anything else that has to do with the outdoors, biking, hiking and seeing the sights of Utah and surrounding states. If you ever have questions on how to help your children, stop in.
