November 21, 2008

I would like to thank all those teachers and staff members who were so instrumental in bringing to pass our wonderful Literacy Enrichment experience to CCES. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It was an amazing day. All profits we earned that day will go directly into our Media Center as we continue to purchase wonderful books.

Tuesday we had TOOL DAY at our school. This was one of our 'favorites' as over 20 parents and volunteers come in to educate our students about potential careers, and show their "tools of the trade".

Thanks to all parents and students who attended our B&D track PTC's. We had 95% attendance, which is wonderfu. We would like 100%, so please contact your child's teacher to schedule your conference if you missed your original one.

Upcoming Events - please mark these on your calendars!

Friday, November 21st
9:00 a.m.
Our Reflections Awards Assembly (for all tracks) will be today. Please join us and see what was submitted and find out who the winners are that will be going to Region.

You won't want to miss the pie eating contest for all office ladies (and Sean and Mrs. Riddle), plus the coloring of hair coloring. WOW! What a great way to wrap up the creativity that's been shown at our school.

AS A REMINDER, If you choose to check out your child before school ends, please do so through the main office, not with the classroom teacher. Also, if you could please make arrangements, if possible, before school regarding checkouts, it would help our office staff tremendously, as well as decrease classroom disruptions.

Parents, keep clipping those box tops (worth 10 cents each) and have your child turn them in to their teacher. Just tape or glue box tops on the green 'Hop on Box Tops!' paper (no staples, please). Turn them in to the teachers, and our PTA will collect them and reward classes too.

The cost for buses is high, and through our Box Tops and other fundraisers, we are able to provide funding for field trips and class activities through your generosity! Thank you to Diana Latouche for helping us with these efforts.

CSIP
Our next SCC meeting will be Wednesday, December 17th at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Room. Please feel free to contact a member of SCC or join us yourself if you have concerns or comments. We also have a 'comment' box in the main office. Feel free to share your concerns or comments that way as well.

Our Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) was shared with SCC on Wednesday, October 15th. An update of our progress will be posted later this month.

We will, once again, be focusing on reading achievement, communication and mathematics.

Ken Garff's Road to Success

We are participating in the Ken Garff's Road to Success program this year. If we reach our goal, a student from each grade level will make Mrs. Riddle into a Sundae. Yes, you read it correctly. Ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, etc. I wonder what Sean will do if students make their goal?

Our goal is 2,937,000 minutes.
As of November 18th, we are at over 520,000. That means we are ahead of what MINUTES we had read by this time last year.  WOW!!!!!!

Students should be reading 20 minutes a night (100 minutes a week) and be reporting these minutes back to their teacher.
