Parents,
I received a letter today from Cindy Jacobsen, Crossing Guard Supervisor from West Jordan City. She has shared with me that they are planning on eliminating kindergarten crossing guards for the A.M. or P.M. kindergarteners.
She suggests the following:
Continue to have adults accompany children to school. She states that, "Having a guard in place gives the adult a false sense of security. Sending a child off to school a few blocks from home and knowing a crossing guard is going to be there may give the adult a reason to feel that a child is safe. " Also, she states that "State law suggests at least 10 pedestrians to establish a crossing and maintain it. None of our kindergarten crossings meet this criterion."
If you have further questions regarding Kindergarten crossguards, please feel free to contact a member of our SCC or West Jordan City at 256-2000.

Upcoming Events - please mark these on your calendars!
July 22
Back To School! We would like to invite you to come to school to meet your new teachers and find out about the upcoming school year as well.
Join us at 6:00 p.m. in the gym for an introduction of all our teachers. After the introduction, teachers will be dismissed to go to their classrooms so they can make last minute preparations for your visits. We will have three sessions of 15 minutes each, plus five minutes passing time between classroom visits. If you need additional time to visit with the teachers, please make an appointment to meet individually with him or her.
Resource teachers and speech and language, along with our guidance counselor, will also be here to meet with you.
Have you just wanted to volunteer but haven't had the opportunity to sign up? Tables will be set up in the hallways where you can sign up for PTA, purchase a school T-shirt, and lots of other information will be shared!

Ken Garff's Road to Success

We will be participating in the Ken Garff's Road to Success program this year, and can't wait to bring our students in for our kick-off assembly. Stay tuned, it's going to be another competitive year. Let's break our reading record ... and maybe Mrs. Riddle and Sean will do something totally awesome!
