Dear Canyon View Parents:

     This letter is to inform parents about our school lunch program procedures. Parents need to use a deposit slip when paying for their child's lunch. Each deposit slip needs to have the student's name, account number, teacher, the amount paid, and the check number if paying by check on each deposit slip. Please understand that all money received will be credited to your child's account and the school cannot give or refund money until the last week of school.

     Many families find it convenient to pay for lunch by the month, week, year, or half year. We discourage daily payments of lunch because students can forget their money or lose it before they get to school. On the back of this letter is a monthly schedule of payments for school lunch. Please keep this schedule for future reference throughout the school year.

     Free or reduced lunch applications need to be turned in as soon as possible. It is necessary that families reapply every year for the free and reduced status. An application is found in the opening registration materials or can be obtained from the office. The deadline to reapply is September 30th. Last year's status will remain in effect until this deadline. After September 30th, any student without an application will be required to pay the full price for school lunch and will be responsible for all expense incurred if the application is received at a later date.

     Balance statements will be sent home with your child on the 15th of every month. If your check is returned for insufficient funds, a return check fee of $10.00 will be added to your account. If you have more than two checks returned for insufficient funds within the school year, then you will be required to pay for school lunch on a cash only basis. It is the district policy that no child be served school lunch without a current lunch balance. The child will be given a snack lunch consisting of fruit or a roll and a carton of milk at the cost of 75 cents a day. If you are having difficulty making your child's lunch payments, contact the lunch secretary or the principal for further assistance.

     We want school lunch to be a positive experience for each child. We believe the goals of education are to help children learn to make wise choices, learn to be responsible for those choices, and to live with the consequences of their choices. Remember the best way to have a great year is to communicate your concerns with the school. We are there to help whenever possible.
