The mission of special education at Bluffdale Elementary
is to provide a service system for students with disabilities
that will expand each student's capabilities and quality
of life by providing indivudalized educational programs
in the most inclusive environment appropriate to meet
the needs of each student.
Special Education at Bluffdale includes three different
service areas: guidance counseling, resource education,
and speech therapy. In addition to these specific
areas, Jordan School District can also obtain federal
and state funding for service it provides for children
with other disabilities including:

Signs
include:
- Inability
to learn that cannot be explained by intellectual,
sensory, or health factors
- Inability
to build or maintain satisfactory interpersonal
relationships with peers and teachers
- Inappropriate
types of behavior or feelings under normal circumstance

Signs
include:
- Irregularities
and impairments in communication
- Engagement
in repetitive activities and stereotyped movements
- Resistance
to environmental change or change in daily routine
- Unusual
responses to sensory experiences

Signs
include:
- Student's
performance falls at or below 2.0 standard deviations
in basic skills and aptitude
- Students
shows significant deficiencies in adaptive behavior,
including social adjustments
|
Signs
include:
- Limited
strength or alertness due to chronic oracute health
problems, such as: heart condition, tuberculosis,
rheumatic fever, nephritis, asthma, sickle cell
anemia, hemophilia, epilepsy, lead poisoning,
leukemia, or diabetes
|
Signs
include:
- Residual
hearing is not sufficient to enable student to
understand the spoken word and to develop language
normally
- Hearing
loss prevents full awareness of environmental
sounds and spoken language, limiting normal language
acquisition
|
Signs
include:
- Impairments
caused by congenital anomaly, disease, and other
causes (e.g. cerebral palsy, amputations, fractures
or burns)
|
Signs
include:
- Speech-language
impairment in articulation, language, voice, or
fluency, as determined by a certified speech-language
pathologist on the basis of results from a complete
speech-language assessment
|
Signs
include:
- Injury
to the brain cause by external physical force
or internal occurrence (e.g. stroke or aneurysm),
resulting in mental impairments
- Does
not include brain injuries that are congenital,
degenerative, or induced by birth trauma
|
Signs
include:
- As
determined by an optometrist or ophthalmologist,
central visual acuity is 20/70 or worse in the
better eye with correction or the peripheral field
subtends an angle not greater than 20 degrees
at its widest diameter
