5th Grade
Jayne Eckholdt
Hello, my name is Mrs. Eckholdt, and I was born and raised in a small town just outside of New York City. I attended BYU for three years and then got married. We lived in Arizona for four years, then moved back to Utah. After 15 years of marriage and six children, I returned to BYU to finish my degree. I graduated in December of 1996 and began teaching at Brookwood Elementary. I taught 6th grade for one year, then transferred to Altara Elementary where I've taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I now have 3 wonderful grandchildren. Some of my hobbies are traveling, biking, hiking, reading, birding, sewing and spending time with my family. |

I have been teaching school for a few years. I taught in the Ogden District for 16 years, and here at Altara last year. I love teaching, and I think that 5th Grade is a very fun grade to teach. I graduated from Utah State University. My dad was a professor at USU and managed the Research Farm for the University in Farmington, Ut, so that is where I grew up. I met my husband 6 years ago. I moved to Salt Lake and tried to keep teaching in Ogden but the commute was difficult. When a chance came to teach in the Jordan District, I jumped at the opportunity and I am glad that I did. I love it here at Altara. It is a truly great place - a great place to teach and a great place to learn.

Because my father served in the U.S. Navy, I was not born and raised in Utah. Instead, I lived in places like Connecticut, South Carolina, Hawaii and Nevada. My husband and I moved to Utah to attend BYU twenty-two years ago and never left. I have 5 children (3 girls and 2 boys) ranging in ages from 11 to 21 years old. When my youngest son entered first grade, I returned to school. I graduated from Brigham Young University in December 2006 and have a Minor in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have student taught in first, third and fifth grades at Sprucewood, Copperview, and Midvale elementary schools. I enjoy reading, singing, gardening, traveling, languages and cultures, learning (of course) and family history. I am very excited to be part of the fifth grade team at Altara.

This is my second year teaching and I am thrilled to be back at Altara. I graduated from Utah State University in 2007 with my bachelor degree in Elementary Education. I grew up in West Jordan and am the 2nd of five kids. I have been married for just over a year and love spending time with my husband watching baseball, movies, and just being together. I love children and love the 5th grade!!
